Reverse 911 Cell Phone Registration
CAMERON COUNTY R911 EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION: REGISTER YOUR CELL PHONE AND E-MAIL ADDRESS
Cameron County Emergency Communications District has instituted a county wide emergency notification system called Cameron County R911 (Reverse 911). The state- of- the-art system combines digital mapping and database technologies which will be able to send telephone notifications to residents and businesses in specific geographical locations within Cameron County impacted by, or in danger of being impacted by, an emergency or disaster.
Cameron County R911 will be used by emergency response personnel to notify those affected homes and businesses at risk with information on the event and/or actions (such as evacuation) officials are asking them to take. Because the Cameron County Reverse911 system uses 9-1-1 telephone databases, only land-line telephone numbers are in the system’s database. Residents who live in Cameron County, which includes all cities and the unincorporated areas of the County, are encouraged to register their cell phones and e-mail addresses for emergency notifications. If you own a cellular telephone or some Voice over IP (VoIP) and would like to be notified through that device, or if you would like an email notification, you must self-register those telephone numbers and/or email address with the Cameron County R911 system. To register your cellular phone or VoIP telephone, please click on the Self Registration Portal (SRP) link at the address below.
http://www.CameronCounty911.com and follow the links to the R911 Self Registration Portal.
Once e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers are registered, it will take up to 24 hours for that information to be updated into Cameron County R911 database.
Cameron County R911 will provide emergency alerts to your cell phone and e-mail address including evacuation notices. This is in addition to the telephone land lines that are already registered in the R911 database. If you have digital or internet telephone service, check with your telephone phone provider to see if they are “E911 compliant” and that your account information is current.
Residents without computers may access the web site from any public computer located at the area public libraries. Also residents may call 855-879-1911 and register their cell phone number by giving your information to a Cameron County representative.
Please note that while the Cameron County R911 has updated information, you should not wait or rely exclusively on a call for evacuation directives. If you think you are in danger, you should evacuate immediately. If you are directed to evacuate by emergency personnel, you should follow their directions.
